Sunday With A Scientist

17 September 2017

Today, The Herr lab led a group of plant root and soil scientists to spend the afternoon at Morrill Hall (at The University of Nebraska State Museum) in their Sunday With A Scientist series. This is a great series of Monthly science events with a specific focus that is fostered for Broader Impacts by UNL’s Office of Research and Economic Development.

Our topic was The Jungle Beneath Our Feet.

The Herr Lab, who is affiliated with the Center for Root and Rhizobiome Innovation was joined by other researchers and scientists from the collective. We were there to help visitors to the museum learn more about plant roots, soil, and microbes in agriculture. We set up displays and participated in hands-on activities including examining soil microbes under a microscope and comparing root structures from different crop plants.

Here’s a few of the participants during the cleanup for the event! We were proud to hold a poster drawn by children who attended the event and who communicated about what they learned. We had a great time! See here for the Press Release for the event!
